Using the Proust Questionnaire as a catalyst for intimacy, participants answer revealing questions about their values, origins, and memories under two conditions: first with eyes closed, and then with eyes open. By stripping away visual self-consciousness in the first phase, the process bypasses curated social facades to access uninhibited, candid responses.
The resulting dual portraits, capturing the physical shifts between interior reflection and exterior sight map the human geography of a precinct built on diverse origins. About Face turns a simple conversational ritual into a study of vulnerability, asking what happens when we strip away self-perception to reveal where we truly come from.
